WHEREAS, the Scioto County Public Library proudly embodies its commitment to connecting people to each other and the world through a diverse range of creative, fun, and educational services, and remains a place that is "Open to All," serving every member of our community with dedication and inclusivity; and
WHEREAS, the library provides essential services through five locations across the county, a bookmobile, and homebound/outreach services, ensuring that all residents, regardless of their location or circumstances, have access to a wide array of resources, including books, ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, periodicals, internet access, and hotspots for checkout; and
WHEREAS, the library is guided by core values that include Kindness, treating everyone with respect in a friendly and welcoming manner; Engagement, fostering teamwork and growth to create positive experiences for all; and Enthusiasm, with staff who are approachable and excited about their work; and
WHEREAS, the library offers programs for all ages, fostering lifelong learning, creativity, and digital literacy, and extends its reach through the Bookmobile service and homebound deliveries, ensuring even the most isolated or underserved members of the community benefit from the library’s offerings; and
WHEREAS, the 1-mill levy is critical to sustaining the library’s operations, supporting staff, maintaining facilities, and expanding services to meet the evolving needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, the renewal of this levy will ensure that the Scioto County Public Library continues to provide these vital services without interruption, preserving its role as a cornerstone of connection, education, and community engagement for all residents, and does not represent a tax increase but simply continues existing funding; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Scioto County Democratic Party strongly endorses and supports the renewal of the 1-mill levy for the Scioto County Public Library, recognizing its essential role in enriching the lives of county residents and fostering a well-informed, connected, and engaged community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Scioto County Public Library Board of Trustees, and that our support for the levy be communicated to the public in advance of the upcoming vote.
