Reconnecting for Change: Why You Should Watch Join or Die and Get Active with Us

Have you ever felt that the world is drifting apart? That the sense of community and connection we once enjoyed has been replaced by isolation, division, and distrust? If so, you're not alone—and there's a powerful documentary, Join or Die, that shows why this is happening and what we can do about it.

This must-watch film dives into the groundbreaking work of Robert D. Putnam, a political scientist and author of Bowling Alone. The documentary reveals how America's once-vibrant communities have frayed, and how the decline in civic engagement—whether through clubs, social groups, or community organizations—has led to the challenges we're facing today: political polarization, rising distrust, and a weakening of our democracy.

But here's the good news: the solution is within our grasp. It’s about showing up, reconnecting, and taking part in something bigger than ourselves. That’s where Join or Die hits home—it’s not just a wake-up call, it’s a call to action.

Why This Matters to Us in Scioto County

Here in Scioto County, our Democratic Party wants to ensure all of our community's needs are met. We have union workers, we have an unhoused population, we have those in recovery, and we have people in other marginalized groups that need our help. We're not just about elections; we’re about making our neighborhoods better places to live, work, and thrive. Whether it’s organizing for local change, registering voters, or simply coming together to discuss issues that matter to us, we are a space where people connect.

Watching Join or Die will inspire you to look at how you spend your time—and how you can make a difference. It shows the transformative power of stepping up and working alongside others. And when you do, amazing things happen. Friendships are formed. Trust is rebuilt. And change—real, meaningful change—takes root.

Why Now?

Our democracy is only as strong as the people who participate in it. This last election was a wake-up call on how many people are disengaged; In the coming months we will see the ramifications from our disengagement or apathy. We will also face critical opportunities to re-engage, to stand up for our values through advocacy, community events, and getting ready for the midterm elections. This documentary is a reminder that when we work together, we’re unstoppable.

So, here’s our challenge to you:

Watch Join or Die — preferably with some of your friends, then discuss it, and let it spark your motivation.
